Web design for wine estates

Websites for wine estates that taste of your wine.

A good winery website shows in seconds which wines are available, when visitors can taste, where the farm shop is and how to order. I design and build these websites personally, from Eschikofen in Thurgau, for wine estates and winemakers across Eastern Switzerland.

The task

What a winery website has to do.

Most people who open your website want one of a few answers: Which wines are available right now? Can I come by on Saturday? Where do I park? How do I get a bottle without phoning? A winery website is good when it answers those questions before anyone has to ask, and sounds like the estate behind it while doing so.

That is why I start with order rather than layout. What do your visitors look for first, what do regular customers buy, what do groups ask about for an occasion? The structure follows from that, and only then the design.

  • The range, ordered by white, red, rosé and sparkling, with vintage and a short description
  • Tastings and farm-shop opening hours, easy to see and easy to change
  • Events such as open-cellar days, tasting evenings or harvest festivals
  • Directions, parking and public transport
  • A clear way to order: form, email, phone or your existing shop
  • The story of the estate, without it standing between the visitor and the wine

Wine list

A wine list, even without an online shop.

Not every wine estate needs an online shop. Many sell at the cellar door, through an order form or to regular customers who call every year. Then the website mainly has to show what is available and make ordering as simple as possible.

A price list as a PDF is quick to make, but depending on its format, awkward to read on a small screen. A wine list as a real page reads well on any screen and can be linked and found. If you already have a shop, I connect the website to it cleanly rather than maintaining a second range.

Which option fits is settled in the discovery call. An additional order form starts from CHF 250; a new shop is quoted separately before any work begins.

Process

How it runs and how long it takes.

Every project follows the same six steps: discovery, structure, design, revision, testing and launch. You always speak to me, the person who designs and builds your website. The structure is agreed in writing before design starts, and you see the design as real pages in the browser.

How long it takes depends mostly on how quickly copy, photographs and feedback arrive. An estate has other things to do in autumn than in February, so a realistic timeframe is agreed in writing at the start rather than promised here. The full process is on Services & Pricing.

Cost

What does a website for a wine estate cost?

For most wine estates the Business package from CHF 2,900 fits: up to six pages, such as home, wines, tastings and farm shop, events, about and contact, with custom design and copy refinement. If you want to tell more, carry several lines, a restaurant or two full language versions, Signature from CHF 4,900 is the better fit.

A second language starts from CHF 650, a booking system for tastings from CHF 390. Website Care from CHF 149 per month then takes care of ongoing changes, such as the new vintage. All prices and exactly what is included are on Services & Pricing.

Region

For wine estates in Thurgau and Eastern Switzerland.

My studio is in Eschikofen, Thurgau. I design websites for wine estates with wine lists, tastings, farm shops and events, based on what your estate actually offers.

I work for wine estates in Thurgau, the canton of St. Gallen, around Schaffhausen and Winterthur, and across Switzerland on request. More about working in the region is on Web design in Thurgau. Hospitality across the region is covered on Web design for hospitality in Eastern Switzerland.

Questions from wine estates.

Does my website need an age notice?

Whether your website needs a notice or an age confirmation, and in what form, depends on whether and what you sell online. I build the solution you choose; the legal assessment of your case stays with you or your adviser.

Do you build online shops?

Whether a shop is needed is settled in the discovery call. Many estates sell well with a wine list and an order form. An existing shop is linked or embedded; a new shop is quoted separately before any work begins.

Can the website be bilingual?

Yes. A second language starts from CHF 650 and includes the structure that keeps both versions in step. The Signature package already includes a multilingual structure.

Who takes the photographs?

Real pictures of your vines, your cellar and your people work best. If you have good photographs, I design with them. If material is missing, we agree in the discovery call who will create it before design begins.

Can I add new vintages myself?

That depends on how often and what you want to change. Say so in the discovery call, and the right solution goes into the written quote. If you would rather not touch it, Website Care from CHF 149 per month takes the changes off your hands.

Show me your estate.

Tell me what you make, who buys from you and what the website needs to do. Or have your current website assessed first, with no obligation.
